US Navy 2nd Nicaraguan Campaign Medal MNo. 39 issued Captain Admiral Samuel W. Bryant for command of the USS Detroit in 1927. Only a very small number of USN officers earned campaign medals while serving in the rank of Captain. Bryant was a 1900 USNA graduate, promoted to Rear Admiral in 1933 and retired in 1937. He had combat service in the Span Am War and was awarded the Navy Cross for commanding the destroyer USS Allen in WWI. He also received the Sampson Medal, West Indies Medal, WWI Victory with Overseas bar and several foreign awards.
Comes with 17 pages scanned from Bryant’s bio file at the Washington Navy Yard and 80 pages scanned from his service file in St. Louis. These will be provided on cd-rom. No original documents or photos are included with the medal. (His bio and obituary incorrectly includes the Philippine Campaign Medal among his medals and awards.)
