Blanche May Murison joined the Australian Army Nursing Service as a Staff Nurse on 23 June 1917 and reported for duty at No. 15 Australian General Hospital in Adelaide. One month after the end of WWI she was appointed to the AANS, Australian Imperial Force for influenza nursing in the 5th Military District (Western Australia). She was eventually demobilized on 3 July 1919 and the following month she married Lieutenant Sydney F. Rowell (who eventually achieved the rank of Lieutenant General and Chief of the General Staff of the Australian Army).
