An unusual WWI trio, with the three medals named to three different units. The recipient was an Australian who served with South African forces in East and West Africa as well as with the Royal Air Force.
1914/15 Star - Pte. R. W. Walker, 10th Infantry BWM - 182169 Cadet R. W. Walker, R.A.F. S.A. Victory - Dvr. R. W. Walker, S.A.S.C.
Walkers South African service file has yet to be ordered but his R.A.F. papers show that Robert William Walker was born in Sydney, NSW on 10 August 1894. His BWM carries his wartime rank of "Cadet", reflecting that he was in flight training during the war. He ultimately received his commission shortly after the armistice.
Walker's R.A.F file shows that he entered that service on 17 August 1918. His prior engagement was one year and 270 days with the 9th E.A.M.T (East African Motor Transport?) and one year and three months with the 9th W.A.I. (West African Infantry?).
Walker's next of kin is listed as his mother in Johannesburg.
Star and Victory Medal issued by South Africa for service in S.W. Africa and E. Africa. British War Medal issued by the R.A.F. Presumably all of Walker's R.A.F. wartime service was in England, which earned him the BWM but not a VM.
Details of Walker's life after 1919 are currently unknown.
