2132 - George B. Eckert, PA 25th Inf, 3rd US Inf – PA 1881 9525 - Henry S. Eckert, 2nd Class – PA 1892
Mollus badge # 2132 issued to Captain George Brown Eckert, who joined the society in 1881. Eckert was born in Reading, PA in 1840 and was a Pennsylvania “First Defender”, enlisting in the Ringgold Light Artillery in April, 1861. The Ringgold Light Artillery was officially Company A, 25th PA Volunteer Infantry.
In August of 1861 Eckert was commissioned in the Third US Infantry and served in the Peninsular Campaign. He resigned his commission in late 1864 and returned to civilian life.
(Note that the center disk on the obverse, normally an eagle, has been replaced with “reverse” design disk.) The badge in otherwise excellent condition, with original ribbon and brooch.
Eckert’s PA First Defenders Medal and his dress uniform are known to be in collector hands.
Mollus badge # 9525 issued to Henry Eckert, son of George B, who joined Mollus in 1892. Henry died at age 23, just over a year after joining Mollus, and his badge is in nearly “untouched” condition.
