PR Occupation # 92 issued to Thomas W. Bulfin in August, 1919. Philippine Campaign Medal No. 23746 issued to Bulfin while serving as a Sergeant in the Georgia National Guard in approximately 1916. Bulfin apparently earned both medals for service in the 8th Infantry Regiment. Bulfin had Mexican Border service with the GA NG but was apparently never issued a medal for this service. (His name does not appear in the medal roll.) He was issued a WWI Victory medal without bar, current location of this medal unknown.
The PR Occ is an extremely rare first production by BB&B. Only 200 medals were struck, all with the small obverse lettering. (All subsequent medals used the standard large lettering design.) The brooch appears to be a replacement. The correct style brooch is a gilt split wrap with rotating catch. Price - $2450 (Sold)
Above is a comparison of the various obverse dies and numbering varieties. (Not shown is the "No." type.)
